Work experience in Australia and New Zealand
Gaining work experience in either Australia or New Zealand can be a rewarding experience. You will not only improve your English skills, but you will meet many new friends from the local area and many from around the world. You will learn new job related skills, and if you've never lived independently before, you will also learn many useful living skills such as budgeting, paying the bills, cooking and doing the laundry. You will learn a lot about yourself, and the work experience will also give you a huge boost for your CV.
To make sure that your work experience in your chosen country will go as trouble-free as possible, there are a few things that you will need to consider and have organised before you head off to either one of these countries:
Visa - you will need to get an appropriate Visa to enter either Australia or New Zealand. Normally, you will have to get a Working Holiday Visa. To qualify, you'll have to be between the age of 18 – 30.
For more information about the Australian and New Zealand WHV, please contact us
Customs regulations – Since the Customs regulations are quite strict in Australia and New Zealand, it's useful to find out what the rules are so that you know exactly what you can and can't bring into the country. This will save you a lot of trouble when entering these countries.
Tax number – In order to begin work in either Australia or New Zealand, you'll need to have a Tax number. In Australia, this is called a TFN (Tax File Number) and in New Zealand, it's called an IRD number (Inland Revenue Department number).

Australian Work Experience Testimonials
Mira Tillmann, Germany
I just loved my internship. I cannot imagine not having been there. I did my
internship at a primary school. Most of the time I was in a class with
students aged 5-8. I even had my own German class and taught them my mother
language. Everyone at the school was really nice and I enjoyed every day. My
supervisor was extremely nice and it was great working with him. I was
involved in so many different things and learned a lot.
The school I worked at was a very special one. There are about 50%
Aboriginal kids at this school. That was a good experience for me to get to
know their culture a little bit.
Because of school holidays and my extra time in January I had time to travel
through Australia and I absolutely loved it.
The After Work drinks are a great opportunity to meet the other interns and
get to know different places in Sydney. In my first week in Sydney I was a
little bit lost (like everyone I guess), but when I went to the after work
drinks it was not like that any more. All Monash Professional staff was so
friendly and nice and it was easy to join the group!
Finally I want to thank Monash Professional for this great time I had. The
internship you organised was just fantastic and without it my time in Sydney
would maybe have been different. I would always recommend this school!
I will come back and cannot wait!
Daniel Wagenführer, Germany
The internship gave me the great opportunity to work abroad and learn how
the work gets done in a country with a different culture and market
structure. I learned about the processes and the Australian market.
During my internship I was involved in the design and layout of an
advertisement for an environmental business magazine and a product flyer for
there website. In additional my company gave me the opportunity to learn
things I wanted to learn. So I learned how to deal with Adobe Photoshop and
other desktop publishing programs. It sounds like a hard work. But it was
not. I could improve my English and business English skills. After work I
met other interns from Monash Professional, I was going surfing with my flat
mate or I was at the ´After work Thursday´ organized by Monash Professional.
Actually I can not wait to come back to Australia and write my master these
over there in a related company from mine.
Victoria Touati, France
It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget! I have worked
closely with the office Manager and all the different departments in the
company.
So my tasks were very different all the time. I have also built a customer
care program framework for the Accounts of the company which was really
interesting. All the colleagues were very welcoming and nice.
I’m very happy I have done this internship, which helped me to improve my
English a lot and I had learn about Australian way of life and work. I’m
looking forward to come back! Thanks Monash!
