Work Permit Eligibility Criteria As per the revised post-study work visa, the Department of Immigration would allow the following work permits:

• Graduates completing a bachelor’s degree would receive 2-years post study work visa
• Graduates completing a Masters degree, Research degree, or PhD would receive 3-4 years post study work visa

However, the students must apply for student visa after November 5, 2011. In other words, the students must file the application with genuine temporary entrant requirement (GTE) data. For those who have not applied with GTE, they can still apply for this visa through graduate work stream option instead of post-study work stream. Post Study Work Visa: a Temporary Visa The new ruling about post study work visa does not mean that the student can continue staying in Australia by renewing the visa permit or changing over to other type of visa. The visa does not also help in permanent residency in any way. It is also important to note that post-study work visa has no relation with skilled migration. This would mean that a student applying for the post study work visa does not have to submit skills assessment document. Conditions for Applying Post Study Work Visa It is not necessary that all students studying higher studies are eligible for applying to this visa. In fact, all students applying for this type of visa must meet the study formalities laid down by the Australian administration. Here are some rules which international students must abide by in order to get the visa:

• The student must be studying in an English medium institute in Australia for a minimum of 2 years
• The applicants must have an English competency with IELTS 6 score in all 4 components.
• The courses studied by the students must be registered with the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS)
• The curriculum must be for duration of 16 calendar months when the student holds a visa that allows the him or her to study in the country.
